Along with many other of life’s burning questions that will likely go unanswered, like: Are aliens real? What is the meaning of life? Is Michael Jackson really dead? Why does Tiger Woods suck now?

We now ask; Why does Dana White hate Roy Nelson?

Before we get Dana and Roy on the coach to be psychoanalyzed, let’s go over the facts.

Exhibit A: Where was Roy Nelson in 2001?

As with many deep-seeded rivalries and hateful relationships, this festival of resentment was conceived at an earlier time, many years before it came to manifest itself on the big screen and in the public eye.

Shown above is a picture of a farm, much like the one Roy Nelson would spend the duration of his days and nights grappling with farm animals, honing his jiu-jitsu for larger opponents in the heavyweight division.

It was also during this time that Dana White and the Fertitta brothers were in the process of acquiring the almost-defunct UFC organization. While they were in the midst of performing CPR to resuscitate this dying brand, Roy Nelson was wrestling farm animals on his farm and was in no way instrumental to getting the UFC where it is today.

Dana White has never forgiven Roy for this, and has vowed to exact his vengeance by constantly harping on him for his appearance like a nagging mother would, on reality television.

Exhibit B: Roy Nelson has hair… a lot of hair. Dana doesn’t have any!

To most people this would seem an innocent enough offense. After all, is it not Roy Nelson’s right to grow his own hair obnoxiously long and curly?

As we all know (and has well been documented throughout history), Dana White, being a member of the bald-people-with-shiny-polished-heads-and-slightly-less-than-average-stature community holds fiery resentment and hostility towards anyone with a full head of hair.

In the picture above, one can see beads of resentment pouring down Dana White’s face as he painfully remembers a time when he used to have hair.

Research reveals that this relationship is one that is complex and dynamic and it goes deeper than anyone could have ever imagined.

Exhibit C: Roy Nelson has a mullett

This is an entirely separate issue from having hair, because a mullett is something of an aberration on all counts of the meaning of the word.

(ab·er·ra·tion/ˌabəˈrāSHən/
Noun:	1. A departure from what is normal, usual, or expected, typically one that is unwelcome.
2. A person whose beliefs or behavior are unusual or unacceptable.
3. Mental irregularity or disorder, especially of a minor or temporary nature; lapse from a sound mental state.)

The reputation of any person or organization associated with a mullett or a person who has a mullett is permanently tarnished and so hath Roy done unto the UFC that which cannot be undone. Perhaps the only possibility for redemption would be for Dana White to sacrifice Roy Nelson, locking him in the cage with a Cain Valasquez or Alistair Overeem.

Exhibit D: Roy Nelson is really a woman?

Now this part of the story gets interesting and does require some explanation.

Dana White has made it clear that he would not have women fighting in his organization under the UFC banner. We all know that this is likely to change in the near future with up-and-coming popular female MMA fighters such as Ronda Rousey.

Here we can see Roy Nelson openly mocking Dana and his hard line against female MMA fighters with his pregnant woman gestures.

Exhibit E: Roy Nelson has a gut, a long untrimmed beard, and literally zero muscle definition.

Roy Nelson looks like a fat, lazy b*stard. No kidding he isn’t on the cover of ANY major magazines or being sought after by any sponsors.

Roy Nelson not only represents the sport in a fat and lazy manner, but also brings virtually no sex appeal to the legions of female fans that are drawn to the sport by a GSP or Alistair Overeem.

Roy Nelson is a complete 180 from anything the UFC is trying to represent.

Exhibit F: Roy Nelson is a relaxed, easygoing, ratings-killer

Maybe it’s the fact that Roy was born with a genetically boring face? Or that his idea of sensational headline news was shaving his beard? Maybe it’s the fact that Roy Nelson doesn’t puff up his chest like a “tough guy” and shout out insults at potential opponents and other uninvolved third parties. Maybe Roy Nelson doesn’t put on a front and just simply does his thing, not trying to be like everyone else or fit into any type of preconceived image of what a fighter should be.

Exhibit G: Dana White is a hater

Nobody can deny what Dana White has done for the sport of MMA. The guy has a bunch of awesome qualities, but one thing that we do know, is that if you get on Dana’s bad side, he’s got a whole fountain of hate to unleash on your soul. He will not just hate everything about you, but he will hate you to your core, until you feel like something inside you has died and you turn to God for help.

Dana White, like all haters, thrives off of these hateful relationships. You see, hate and everything it represents is the lifeblood of haters like Mr. White and he needs Roy as much as Roy needs Dana. It’s all part of the circle of life, and what keeps the universe in balance.

The day Dana White stops hating Roy Nelson will be the day people stop caring and all things right in this world come to an end. Hate on Dana. Hate. On.

Who’s side are you on? Do you think Dana has a legit reason to hate the fat fighter?

The upcoming UFC 153 card will pit Brazilian pound-for-pound superstar Anderson Silva against “The American Psycho” Stephen Bonnar in a match that many are saying will be the worst one-sided massacre since Griffin vs Silva (for those of you that have not seen the Forrest Griffin fight, Silva sustained absolutely zero damage and knocked down Griffin multiple times with jabs while dodging punches with his hands down).

Some betting lines have Bonnar as a 14-to-1 underdog, which is not outrageous considering Silva’s unparalleled dominance in the sport throughout the last six years. He has completely dispatched almost all of his opponents with ease and the few times we’ve seen The Spider in a less than dominant position, he’s always managed to rally a comeback and remain the champion.

Recent interviews with Bonnar reveal him to be a really honest, humble and down-to-earth guy. Anyone that has followed the fighter since his stint on the first installment of The Ultimate Fighter Reality Show already knows this. Here is a recent interview with Stephen Bonnar and Karen Bryant from MMAHeat.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Today also featured the UFC 153 Media Conference call. There were no fighting words between the fighters but we brought you some sound bites from the recent call.

Bonnar on fight preparation: “Making weight’s always been easy. I’m in good enough shape to fight three rounds.”

Bonnar on the biggest fight of his career: “I don’t know if the bigest fight is supposed to come at he end of your career. I’ve had some big fights on some big stages but the biggest fight that had the biggest impact was the fight with Forrest. The chance to fight the greatest, pound for pound in the world, in a place like Brazil is just crazy. It’s like i’m in a movie.”

Bonnar on getting a victory: “I really can’t discuss this. Let’s look at it for what it is. He’s a really great accurate striker. I gotta make it a little uglier and be aggressive and be able to eat a punch to land a punch. And that’s about as much as I want to give on this.”

Bonnar on Silva’s past fights at 205: “He still looked very fast and he performed flawlessly.”

Silva on three round vs five round fights: “Every fight is a fight. I’m training the best that I can to put on a great show. Win or lose I want to put on a great performance for the fans. Every UFC fighter should be ready to fight, 1, 2, 3 rounds; however many rounds it takes.”

Silva on fighting Bonnar: “Everyone in the UFC is prepared to be a great champion… to win. The greatest fighters. Stephen Bonnar… it’s an honor to be fighting him. Definitely going to be a great challenge. I wanted to take this fight to give back to all of my Brazilian fans that have supported me. This will be one of the bigest UFC fights in my career.”

Silva on Brazil and its place in MMA: “I believe it’s important for everyone to recognize the value of Brazil and our athletes… the performance of our athletes in MMA. I’m not putting down all of the other countries. Everyone has great fighters but Brazil has a strong history in MMA and very capable athletes.”

Silva on a title run at 205: “There’s other guys in that weight class on our team. Rafael Feijao and Minotauro Nogueira that will face Jon Jones in the future. My weight class is 185. I’m 37 years old. I feel that I need to be honest and conitnue what i’ve built, which is to keep defending my belt at 185.”

Minotauro on Herman’s comments that BJJ doesn’t work: “Everyone can talk whatever they want to, you know? My BJJ works very well. I have like 33 wins in my career 20 of them by BJJ. I believe they work. Some of my last fights I did try to strike more. You know for this fight especially i trian a lot of BJJ. If I have a chance to win on the ground I will go for it… you know a submission and knockout. I”m training more my BJJ.”

Minotauro on his recent arm injury and recovery: “My arm is feeling pretty strong. I’m ready to go. I’m hungry to fight. I was asking the UFC to fight. I now have a chance to represent and fight in Brazil.”

Minotaur on making at title run and fighting Junior Dos Santos: “I don’t like to fight him. If I get chance to fight another guy, if he does not have the title, for sure I will.”

Ever want something so bad that you told little lies to yourself so that you could believe? Maybe you really wanted to believe that you could beat your older brother in Street Fighter II so badly that you already started betting on who would have do all of the chores before the game even started.

Well I wouldn’t know anything about that, but Georges St. Pierre might really want to believe that he is fully recovered and a newer more invigorated version of his previous self after coming back from an injury. Doesn’t this sound familiar? Haven’t we heard this all to many times?

Fighter gets injured. Fighter gets surgery. Goes through rehab. Claims he is now truly 100% or even better than he was before. Tito Ortiz anyone?

For a professional fighter, whose livelihood consists of fighting, the idea that he can no longer do this as good as he once could is as painful a realization as the weekend warrior football dad that must finally accept he’s not going to be playing in the NFL or the aspiring rock musician with a wife and kids who wont be headlining Madison Square Garden, ever.

I’m not trying to shatter dreams here. Whatever I say has nothing to do with whether these dreams will eventually be realized or not. In the case of GSP, I merely make the point that he might not be in touch with reality as much as he thinks he is.

See, it is easier for Georges to believe that he is now better than he was along with having a renewed sense of enjoyment and appreciation for the sport he claims that he began to lose a passion for about the same time as his injury. The idea that he isn’t 100% or far from it despite putting relentless hours into rehabbing his injured knee might be too much for the guy to handle (and possibly anyone for that matter). He’s made a career out of being the best and anything less than that is not on the man’s radar.

Let’s not forget, that Georges also has millions upon millions of dollars at stake in sponsorships and percentages of UFC PPV buys etc. Even if he weren’t completely the same fighter as he once was, he has every reason to continue competing at the highest level and telling himself he’s better than ever.

Heck, I’d fight Anderson Silva with a bum knee if I had a multi-million dollar pay day waiting for me on the other side.

Georges St. Pierre may truly believe he’s a better version of himself than he was before his injury. I’m not so convinced.

We’ll have to wait and see at UFC 154 but even then, questions could still linger as to whether or not it is Georges St. Pierre or his increased quality of competition that is the cause of any changes in his performance.

In a highly anticipated matchup between the former Light Heavyweight Champion and the Current Light Heavyweight Champion, Vitor Belfort gave Jon Jones and his team a scare in the first round.

While dispersing his trademark lethal ground-and-pound, Jon Jones left himself open for an arm bar by the Carlson Gracie jiu-jitsu black belt. Vitor Belfort locked in a tight arm bar on Jones and torqued the arm of the champ until the arm was visibly hyperextended in the opposite direction.

Victory seemed everything but certain for Belfort, who was the first person to put the champ in any real danger, albeit while on the bottom and on the receiving end of some seriously vicious elbows.

Folks, this is what jiu-jitsu was originally meant for. Reversing any type of situation so that the opponent is never safe no matter where the fight goes. Watching a seasoned veteran and jiu-jitsu black belt like Vitor pull off this fundamental move on the champ with Royce Gracie sitting cageside was a testament to the martial art and its continued relevance in fighting despite the recent domination in the sport by decorated wrestlers.

Despite being in this terrible position, Jones didn’t tap. He continued to fight despite complaining of serious pain and discomfort in his elbow, while his coach Greg Jackson urged Jones to hit him with his injured body part (anyone remember Jackson telling Georges St. Pierre to hit Thiago Alves with his groin?)

Throughout the later rounds, Vitor managed to draw Jones into a few rock’em sock’em exchanges on the feet yet continued to pull guard despite the fact that he seemed to be on the winning end of those exchanges.

After the fight we would learn that Vitor Belfort had suffered pre-fight injuries and an insufficient length of time to prepare for the championship bout. All of this aside, Vitor still performed better than any other challenger thus far, putting the champ in a compromising position that we have never seen before.

In the end, Jones locked in an Americana after Vitor once again pulled guard after a brief exchange on the feet. What would the outcome have been if Vitor had a full training camp free of injuries?

On a side note, it seems the refs are finally cracking down on Jones’ “hands and fingers in the face” standup tactic, which seemed effective at preventing his opponents from closing the distance. Look for skilled strikers to have more success getting inside of Jones’ range in the future (Machida).

What do you guys think about this? What did you think of the fight overall? Do you think the champ will have any real challenges in the near future? How about Belfort? Should he stay at 205?

It’s no secret that Jon Jones and Vitor Belfort are devout Christians who spread the powerful message of Jesus Christ in their talks with the media and major news outlets.

With UFC 152 less than 24 hours away, the question as to whose faith will be a stronger source of motivation come fight time is becoming more real than ever. Will Jesus pick the winner?

When asked whether God would help him win, Jon Jones explained that his relationship with God was on a personal level. This means that God helps Jones become the best he can be, whether it be in fighting, fatherhood or as a person in general.

When asked the same question, Vitor complimented Jones on his answer and explained that his relationship with God goes beyond just fighting and is something he carries with him in all areas of his life.

(If you want to hear more about this you can listen to the UFC 152 Media Call here.)

Attributing victory in fighting and other sports to religion is not a new trend. Certain athletes like Tim Tebow may have made brought it more directly in front of the public eye, but there is no question that many great athletes since the beginning of sports have thanked a steadfast faith in their religion for their success.

There may be a lot of fans, Christians and atheists alike that find implicating religion with success in a sport such as mixed martial arts to be distasteful. I am not sure it is anyone’s place to judge how someone else uses religion except for the actual person in question.

Fighting in a controlled environment where skill is often the determinant of the final outcome is a long ways away from holy wars and other mass acts of violence that have taken place for the sake of religion.

Jesus will not be a guest ref for this Light Heavyweight Championship Bout at UFC 152 but this is definitely not the last we will be hearing about him when it comes to MMA, or any sport for that matter.

What is it about Vitor Belfort that makes him so likable?

Is it his upbeat attitude and positive outlook on life? Is it his unwavering belief in the good in himself and other people? Is it his ability to finish fights with devastating highlight-reel knockouts with either hand? Is it the fact that Vitor is a legend in the sport who has gone through ups and downs that have helped him to build a loyal following of fans that have followed him through the ups and downs of his career?

Vitor is a class act. He always shows respect not just to his opponents but to everyone he meets and he’s always trying to inspire others around him to do their best and overcome challenges.

Watching the UFC 152 pre-fight press conference and the weigh-ins, it seems clear that Vitor is a guy without an agenda. Or at least if he has one, he makes no secret about it. He wants to win and he believes it’s a 50/50 shot for both him and his opponent.

At the face-offs Vitor greets his opponent with a smile and looks him squarely in the eyes. His opponent, however, seems to take an Anderson Silva approach, sometimes avoiding eye contact altogether or taking an overly-serious tone towards his opponent.

Why does this stuff matter? As far as winning or losing a fight it doesn’t. But when it comes to representing the sport and winning fans, trying to put on fronts and act disingenuous will not help your cause.

Vitor is a class act. The way he conducted himself at the pre-fight press conference just reminded all of us how cool a guy Vitor Belfort is. Every time he opens his mouth, the guy is sharing an inspirational story or idea to help other be better.

Vitor doesn’t separate himself from other fighters, the media or the fans. He is human and doesn’t pretend or act like he’s special or different. Maybe that’s why people love to love Vitor, because they can identify with him and he doesn’t try to act like he’s better.

One word sums up the difference between the current defending Light Heavyweight Champ and the challenge; humility.

That is usually the difference you’ll find between a young lion and an old one. The old lion has been to the top, fallen and knows what it’s like to be on top of the world and then nowhere close in fast succession. The old lion has been around long enough to realize how quickly the tides can change in a matter of minutes.

The young lion may need to learn from experience, and perhaps this upcoming fight will be such an opportunity.

One thing that is certain, win or lose, Vitor Belfort will continue to be a fan favorite for the rest of his fights.

Within the first minutes of the fight, it looked as if Matt Secor was one knee bar away from becoming one of the 16 contestants to enter the house. While there didn’t seem to be a way out for Max Griffin, he somehow managed to escape and turn the fight into a long battle of attrition for both fighters.

In a back and forth battle where his opponent was enjoying an advantage in the standup, Matt Secor showed his toughness, will and determination as he relentlessly attempted submission after submission.

Matt hung in there proving that he is always dangerous no matter where the fight goes or how far into the fight he and his opponent might find themselves. I know Matt and I wanted him to win but I’ll admit I got seeds of doubt as each submission was so close but didn’t close the deal.

And it’s a good thing Matt was in the cage and not me, because he had the belief in himself to keep going when the going got tough. A triangle in the third round which was a long time coming put Matt in the winner’s circle.

I want to point something out here. There are plenty of fighters with solid standup and slick ground games. Heck, on a good day Travis Luter could probably submit Anderson Silva.

What we see in fighters that enjoy future success and staying power are the guys with heart and the guys that don’t even know the words “give up” or discouragement.

“The kid’s a little nutty.”

That’s what Dana White had to say about Secor. That should work out well in a reality show with a house full of fighters on lock-down and a full bar.

No, that’s not Rich Fanklin or his cousin. Matt Secor will be one of 32 contestants to join the latest installment of the Ultimate Fighter Reality Series.

Matt Secor hails from South Glens Falls, New York and trains with Spa City Jiu-Jitsu out of Ballston Spa, New York. Under the tutelage of Renzo Gracie black belts Eddie Fyvie and Chad Beatty, Matt brings to the table a strong background in grappling and a solid ground game.

Matt comes to the house with an amateur record of 5-0 and a professional record of 3-1 (see record here). His only loss coming to Nordine Taleb, Bellator FC fighter and training partner of Georges St. Pierre (ever heard of him?).

Matt played soccer and wrestled in high school and has been fighting since ’09. He has been training with Renzo Gracie black belts and that is no joke. Matt should have a serious advantage on the ground against a lot of the guys in the house.

Click here to view the embedded video.

You can see in the video how fast Matt reverses the takedown and in less than a minute his opponent is tapping out.

I’ve trained with Matt before on a few occasions and I can say this kid is a beast. He’s strong as hell and knows how to apply that strength in a technical way which is always a dangerous combination.

Matt is one of the only TUF fighters to come out of Upstate New York. The only other fighter to come from the same area is Matt Riddle, who was a NY State and National wrestling Champion that wrestled for Saratoga High School. While Matt didn’t win the show, he has enjoyed tremendous success in the UFC since then.

If having the first name Matt and being from Upstate New York are any indication of having success in the biggest fight promotion in the world, then Secor is in good shape. Even if it isn’t, look for Matt to put on amazing fights and display a technical and dangerous ground game that will keep all of the TUF contestants on their toes.

Who do you think is going to win TUF 16?

On September 11, the UFC 152 Media Conference Call took place including two additional opponents that weren’t scheduled to fight on the upcoming card.

Dana White and Jon Jones. The two hardly exchanged any words and failed to acknowledge one another during the entire call. Dana White discussed the controversy over the UFC 151 cancellation by saying that he and Jones would “talk it out” in person at the event in Toronto.

Jon Jones also expressed his interest in talking things over in person and putting the matter behind them. At one point he stated that he was “over it” but not before bringing up the entire saga and recounting his take on things once more.

Contrary to what Jones says, he is not “over it” otherwise he would not continue to defend himself and bring up the topic over and over again. And that’s okay, Jon is the champ and can talk about whatever he likes, yet it seems everyone else is moving on except for him.

Anyone ever watch Dave Chapelle’s skit entitled “When keeping it real goes wrong?” Here’s a short video of one of the skits.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Can you figure out who plays Jon Jones and Dana White in that?

Dana White is a charismatic larger than life personality and a businessman that has built a fledgling organization into an empire. Like other powerful personalities before him, Napoleon, Hitler and Hugh Hefner, he believes in his cause and will stop at nothing to defend it.

One thing they also have in common, is that you don’t want to cross them. That gets ugly pretty quickly as we’ve seen with Tito Ortiz and Randy Couture. In the end it seems they all wind up trying to get back in the good graces of Uncle Dana and the UFC.

Jon Jones has stated that he did what he had to do for his own career and his family. That is understandable, but we’ve all seen how it’s worked out for fighters that tried to do what was best for their careers to the chagrin of the UFC.

One exception is Anderson Silva. That man has pretty much marched to the beat of his own drum since joining the UFC, and Dana has come to terms with having a pound-for-pound champ he can’t always muscle around.

Here is the difference though, if you’re going to compare Jones and Silva. Silva knows enough to keep his mouth shut and let Dana spout off. Anderson continues to do quietly do his thing, beating every opponent put in front of him, without paying Uncle Dana any mind.

Dana White is a loose cannon and anyone that tries to get in the way of that is going to get blasted. Jones may think he’s making a stand for other fighters, but getting into arguments to “make his point” is just engaging the boss on his level and he can’t win at that.

This is going to get ugly folks. During the conference call, after Jones explained how it was really Dana’s fault for canceling the UFC 151 card, White disconnected from the call.

If Jones thinks he and Dana are going to put all of this behind them and be pals after UFC 152 this is wishful thinking on his part. It’s almost sad to see that Jones is falling into a tit-for-tat with a company president that knows no match in this game.

This is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better. Jon Jones continues to explain why he’s right and everyone else, his fans, his boss, even some of his teammates are wrong but sometimes it’s not about being “right” Jon, just ask Vernon Franklin.
